Meta PsycKicks’ Manifestation Manifesto
Have you heard about the Law of Attraction or the act of Manifestation before but have never been given the history behind the ideas? Or you have heard about these thoughts, but are looking for a more retrospective explanation? Look no further, your sidekicks to all things metaphysical are here to help! First, we’ll start out defining what the idea of manifestation is and move onto where these ideas first originated, followed by how manifestation works, and finish it all off with ways you can use the Law of Attraction to manifest what you most desire in your life! Comfy? Good. Here we go!
Defining The Undefinable
Oxford dictionary defines manifestation as an event, action, or object that clearly shows or embodies something, especially a theory or an abstract idea. We know, that doesn’t sound like a definition of anything at all, right? That’s because the concept of manifestation, is a theory about an abstract idea, the abstract idea being manifestation itself.
Now that you’re thoroughly confused, we should touch on what a manifesto is. A manifesto is a published declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the issuer (*cough cough, us, your Meta Psyckicks, we’re the issuers). A manifesto usually accepts a previously published opinion or public consensus (in this case, the concept of manifestation) and either outlines the ideas in a new light or promotes a new idea with perspective notions for carrying out changes the author(s) believe should be made. In this case, we will be covering a brief history of manifestation and giving our two sense of how it works and how you can use it for yourself!
Get it? This is our Manifestation Manifesto! Yeah, we know it’s corny. Now onto the dramatic mini backstory
Manifestation’s Backstory
Unsurprisingly, the concept of manifestation did not originate in the U.S. but was brought over by a menagerie of other individuals during a period known as the New Thought Movement. This epoch can be thought of as the rise of spiritualism in America and began roughly around the mid 19th century. The concepts around the Law of Attraction and Manifestation can be found in a range of ancient practices and eastern teachings. These ideas are referred to in both Buddhist and Christian writings.
Buddha famously said, “Our thoughts make us what we are.” And in the Bible, Mark 11:24 Jesus is quoted saying, “ Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe you have received it, and it will be yours.”
It is important to note that the period before The New Thought Movement, the Ancient Thought Movement, was a time frame where intellectuals gathered wisdom and philosophy from various cultures spanning from ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Muslim, Chinese, Taoist, Vedic, Hindu, and Buddhist teachings and beliefs. Mostly centered around the interactions between thought, belief, human consciousness, and the effects of these within and beyond a person’s mind. The individuals who arose after the influence of the Ancient Thought Movement would take the era’s ideas and forge the path for spiritualism in America as we know it today.
Influential individuals such as Madame Helena Blavatsky and Thomas Troward took Ancient Thought ideas and created their own ideologies and teachings that swept through America in a storm of literature and lectures.
It was Madame Blavatsky who coined the term “The Law of Attraction”. In one of her writings, she contented that our thoughts about ourselves and our identity are what define who we are and what we’re capable of. She focused on a person’s ability to shape reality, and their power to move past their own limitations.
On the opposite side of the same coin regarding New Thought teachings, Thomas Troward was described by some as a “mystic Christian” and he and other authors were known to take significant ideas from Hindi spiritual teachings and reinvent them as their own. The prevalence of Hindi teaching in the concepts of New Thought ideas was so great that in the mid 19th century Hindi teachers such as Swami Vivekananda traveled to the U.S. to give lectures on their beliefs. New Thought ideas were such a fascination in America that their ideas struck a chord with people throughout the country, even impacting their lives.
Phineas Quimby was a young American citizen who fell ill with tuberculosis during the rise of spiritualism in the U.S. At this time, tuberculosis was an incurable disease, but young Mr. Quimby decided to not let it ail him. Instead of staying in bed, he took up the hobby of horseback riding to take his mind off the matter of his sickness.
Remarkably, he was able to overcome his diagnoses of tuberculosis which was unheard of at the time. Phineas Quimby documented his ability to focus his mind so outwardly that he momentarily forgot about his sickness and later attributed it to his subsequent recovery. He described this phenomenon as “Mind Over Body”.
There were many other individuals who wrote and lectured on New Thought Ideas, but what they all ultimately boil down to are Madama Blavatsky’s “Law of Attraction” and the concept of manifestation and how these two theories work together to bring what you most desire into your life. So let’s talk about how The Law of Attraction and manifestation work. But first, let us touch on the controversy of manifestation being thought of as magick.
Not Magic or Magick
First of all, if you’ve noticed that the word “magick” is spelled wrong, it is not. There are two spellings and each means something different. Magic, as we’re all most used to is defined as the performance of illusionary tricks such as sleight of hand to trick the eye and most often entertain. While Magick is the occultist’s practices and traditions in which various things are used to seek control over other people and circumstances to acquire power over them. Manifestation and the LOA are neither of these things. Manifestation is using our God-given free will, in-tune with the universe to attract or change the circumstances in our life to fulfill that which we most need or desire. The LOA is the act of putting yourself vibrationally in-tune with something, and then asking for it and actively waiting for it to come to you.
The Science Behind Manifestation
The theory of manifestation is based on using The Law of Attraction (LOA) to bring what you most desire to you. The LOA is defined as the belief that positive or negative thoughts and actions bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. To understand how thoughts, emotions, and actions could influence what the universe sends into your life, you must first understand what makes up the things you most want in your life and how they exist. This can be understood when we grasp the basic concepts of matter.
Why Does Matter, Matter?
We all know that everything in the universe is made of matter. Microscopic atoms called protons, neutrons, and electrons interact on a subatomic level to create particles, tiny clusters of atoms. Those particles join in unions known as bonds with other similar or different particles to create molecules and so on and so forth until we have the macroscopic matter, big things such as the chair your sitting in, you yourself, and the universe as we know it!
The 3 States and Their Frequencies
Now, at a young age, we all learn about the 3 basic states of matter, Solids, Liquids, and Gases. But what is the defining factor that separates each state from the other? The frequencies at which the atoms vibrate at!
Matter in the liquid phase has its molecules vibrating at frequencies very different from the vibrational frequencies than matter in a gaseous state. In the theory of manifestation, it is believed that along with the physical vibrations of matter, emotions, and thoughts have frequencies associated with them as well. If this seems a bit far fetched to imagine, we can break it down into real-world applications as well.
Mechanical Circuitry | The Human Body
We usually don’t think of the human body as an electrical apparatus but more a mechanical machine built of bones and muscle. However, we do have an electrical current flowing through us, and it is powered by our heart. When doctors wish to measure the electrical activity of your heartbeat, they can run what is called an electrocardiogram or ECG. Physiologically your heart is like a mechanical generator that creates electrical impulses that are sent to your brain’s neurons, which are equivalent to the wires in a circuit, thus powering all your body’s functions.
So not only are we made up of many types and states of matter constantly vibrating at a multitude of frequencies on a physiological level, our electrical heartbeats are converted into physical movements, thoughts, and emotions! And these are all ways in which humans exist on a vibrational frequency. Now, if we can control these frequencies in different ways, such as our thoughts, emotions, and actions, then The Law of Attraction can be used to bring in other things that are attracted by the frequencies we emit. This is called manifestation.
The Unseen Forces Behind the Law of Attraction
All things in the universe whether on a microscopic or grand scale are attracted to or repelled from one another by seen and unseen forces. Some of the unseen forces are dictated by the frequencies at which matter exists, such as our emotions or thoughts. Obviously, if we were to physically push or pull something away from us, then that would be that, but what about the unseen?
“The forces of the universe that are seemingly, secretly, at play.”
When you have a bad morning, most people dwell on the fact that their morning was bad for this reason or that. Maybe they may notice a trend of bad things that seem to happen all throughout the day, turning their whole day sour. For most, they will go to bed and start a new day with new experiences. However, do you know of one person who may just seem to always have a “negative nelly” outlook on life and seems to have bad luck or bad days where ever they go? Well, their negative vibrational frequency may be a factor in their long string of drab days. The same applies to those individuals who always seem to be walking on sunshine and every day seems to be a good day. Their positive vibrational frequency attracts more positivity in their life.
This is the LOA at work, manifesting good or bad days for each individual. If we think good thoughts and do good things, then the universe will manifest or bring positive things into your life. The same applies to the opposite. So if we want to change our vibrational frequencies to attract what we want, how can we do that? By using the LOA to manifest what we desire using various methods of manifestation. You can use one or all methods of manifestation or makeup one that works best for you to manifest what you want in your life, using your God-given free will to do so.
