The Stone Cabin and The Phantom Penguin
Embracing Mediumship: Medium Julie’s Story
Since Em and Liv are always mentioning Liv’s Mom and sharing her stories, your friendly neighborhood Meta PsycKicks decided to have Julie share some of her stories in person! Throughout these stories, it is important to remember that Julie is a mental medium, and spirits interact with her through thoughts, feelings, and emotions. So without further ado, here are the stories about Julie’s ghost-induced spiritual awakening and the spirit penguin.
Born With Gifts
First, we should recap that Julie was born a medium and has seen and channeled spirits her entire life. Some of her most memorable first encounters with spirits were in church with her grandmother. As a young girl, Julie would sit in the pews during church with her grandmother and babble to people sitting next to her. Though, in reality, the only adults who were usually around Julie during mass were her grandmother and her grandmother’s friend. Thus, she was seemingly talking to no one.
One day her grandmother’s friend asked little Julie who she was so happily chatting to. Without naming names she was able to describe certain individuals who were devoted churches goers from the past. Each individual she described could be linked to someone who my grandmother and her friend had known from the church.
From then on her grandmother would hush little Julie whenever she began talking to the people no-one else could see. Her speaking with spirits got so strong that her grandmother began taking little Julie to see people within the church as a form of therapy to try and tell Julie what she was seeing and doing was wrong. So after many years of being taught that seeing ghosts and speaking with spirits was wrong, she began withholding her metaphysical abilities from others. But all throughout her life, she would always experience the world around her a little bit differently. From feeling past people around her friends and family to just having a sense of knowing things before they happened or vividly being able to see and understand the stories other present people were telling her.
She tried to conceal her gifts, but they never went away. For 30 years Julie was mostly silent, suppressing her psychic medium abilities because her society told her they were odd and “not normal”, until an unexpected day, a friendly ghost was sent to help her.
My Favorite Pile of Rocks
Julie was a real estate agent in her early thirties and one day she took her husband to do a pre-showing walk-through of a home she was asked to sell. From the outside to the inside, this tiny home, built in the 1830s, was completely built of stone. Upon entering the tiny home, my mother was halted from beginning her normal routine of walking through a home. She was frozen right as she walked in the door, her gaze is met by a humongous stone hearth.
As her husband descended the stairs to the basement, Julie was frozen in the living room with tiny footprints stuck in her head. Emotions and thoughts began pouring into her mind that she knew were not her own. Flashes of tiny feet positioned pinky toe to pinky toe and set in stone lit up her mind. Images of notches carefully carved into a door's frame flashed through her head accompanied by images of each room's contents and layout. Each image was escorted with emotion and ended with the question, "Don't you love my favorite pile of rocks?"
Pinky Toe to Pinky Toe
Trapped in time, Julie was brought back to reality by her husband's voice calling to her. She turned to him with tears in her eyes exclaiming, " A man is here. The man who used to live here. He is dead and is talking to me. He loved his house. This is his home." Astounded by her statement, Julie's husband began questioning her. She quickly stopped his questions instead instructing him to wander throughout the house. As he entered each room, she described each room right down to the color and stitching of the bedsheets. Getting annoyed by being directed through this centuries-old home, her husband finally stopped and exclaimed. "Okay, but what does this have to do with anything?!" Turning to face her husband and with tears in her eyes, Julie exclaimed, " I haven't been into any of those rooms. I've been standing right here the whole time."
In a state of awe and disbelief, they stared at each other until a sudden knock at the front startled them from their state. After trying to compose themselves, Julie and her husband answered the door and were met with a gentleman in his late 40's. He introduced himself as the son of the man who had lived in the home and wanted to show them around. And he understands where they stood financially in regards to selling the home. After speaking about business, Julie couldn't keep the question nagging her lips at bay any longer. She politely asked the man's son if he knew anything about baby feet being imprinted in stone. Slightly surprised, the son chuckled and replied saying, "Yes, those are actually my feet. My father carved my footprints backward into the stone of the fireplace because he thought it was a funny thing to do. He loved this house. He used to call it his 'favorite pile of rocks’."
The Phantom Penguin
The spirit of the man from the stone home had really impacted Julie and her understanding that her mediumship abilities were never going to go away. They were not something she could run or hide from. From that day forward, she took careful steps to try and better understand her gifts and embarked on the journey to help others using her God-given gifts.
One day Julie sat down to give a woman a reading. The reading went very well, and she was able to channel the woman's father to bring some peace, clarity, and closure to the woman. The only dilemma is that during the entire hour-long reading, Julie was watching a giant emperor penguin waddle throughout the room, squawking and flapping its wings at her and the woman she was reading. Perplexed by the entire spectacle and still relatively new to embracing her abilities, Julie waited until the end of the reading to ask the woman in front of her if she identified with a penguin. In fact, she almost didn't say anything at all because she found it all so odd.
Taking a deep breath she politely asked the woman if she was ever associated with penguins or knew a giant penguin. At the mention of the giant bird, tears began streaming down the woman's face. She explained that her father had been a marine biologist and while they lived in Australia, had rescued the bird and rehabilitated it. Because it could not be released back into the wild, the woman and her father had kept it as a house pet. She went on to remark how much she had loved the animal and cherished her time with it. For Julie, this was one of the many cool and rewarding experiences she would come to face as she continued to embrace her mediumship.
